What is it?

This is a new programme developed as a joint initiative between Microsoft, e-skills UK (Sector Skills Council) and The National Apprenticeship Service

·         The Programme has been designed with employers and uses the best from Programme led and full Work Based schemes.  It is designed for young people aged 16, 17 or 18 years old at the start of the apprenticeship although the scheme can be available for older entrants with adjusted costs to replace any reduced age related funding.

 The Programme is based on the System Support apprenticeship giving a good generic grounding in the 10 month Programme.  The Apprenticeship will be delivered at regionally based Training Centres and the apprentice completes:

·         2 Microsoft certifications: Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

·         2 CompTIA certifications:  A+ and Network +

·         Level 3 NVQ, Key Skills, Employment Rights and Responsibilities

·         Plus  an introduction to Business Skills inc. Sales Processes.

 

There are significant benefits for the employer and the key ones are:

·         Engaging with Microsoft – a quality brand association of benefit to the employer and apprentice

·         Apprentices provide value to the business much quicker through the unique condensed programme

·         The shortened programme has proved to be less of a strain on internal processes

·         Savings on recruitment costs (typically £2,000 per new employee)

·         Free training and development (typically in excess of £14,000)

·         The management of the Apprenticeship supported by external experts

 

There are some costs for the employer which are:

·         Salary for10 months at a minimum of £100 per week = £4,000

·         Management fee of 3 x £250 payments (at start, month 4 and on completion).

 

The format of the apprenticeship is:

 

·         Part 1

o        Month 1 to 3 = 3 weeks at the Training Centre & 1 week in the workplace

·         Part 2

o        Month 4 = 4 weeks in the workplace

·         Part 3

o        Month 5 to 6 = 3 weeks at the Training Centre & 1 week in the workplace

·         Part 4

o        Month 7 – 4 weeks in the workplace

o        Month 8 to Month 10 – sign off and on-going support to the employer and apprentice
